Configuring RD Gateway via Connect from Anywhere
Short answer
A Configure the 'Connect from anywhere' setting on the Advanced tab of the Remote Desktop Connection client to specify the RD Gateway server.
Question
You have a server named Server1 that is accessible by using Remote Desktop Services (RDS) through the RD Gateway.
You need to configure a Remote Desktop connection to connect through the gateway.
Which setting should you configure?
Key Takeaways
The trap is confusing 'Connect from anywhere' (the gateway toggle/settings location) with 'Connection settings' (general RDP file management). The gateway configuration resides specifically under the 'Connect from anywhere' section.
To connect through an RD Gateway using mstsc.exe, you must configure the 'Connect from anywhere' setting on the Advanced tab. This allows you to specify the gateway server details for remote access.
Common mistake: Choosing 'Connection settings' (C) is incorrect because that term generally refers to saving/opening .rdp files or is a misleading label; the actual gateway configuration is explicitly located under the 'Connect from anywhere' header on the Advanced tab.
Expert Analysis
The question asks how to configure a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client (mstsc.exe) to route traffic through an RD Gateway. In the RDC interface, this configuration is found on the Advanced tab under the section labeled Connect from anywhere. Clicking the Settings button within this section opens the dialog where you specify the RD Gateway server address and logon settings.
Option A (Connect from anywhere) is the correct answer because it is the specific UI control that enables and configures the gateway connection. As noted in community comments, some users confuse this with Option C (Connection settings), but "Connection Settings" typically refers to the General tab options for saving or opening.rdp files, or is a sub-label inside the 'Connect from anywhere' settings dialog. The primary action to enable the gateway path is selecting the 'Connect from anywhere' option.
Option B (Server authentication) deals with certificate validation and is not the primary method for specifying the gateway server. Option D (Local devices and resources) controls redirection of local hardware/software and is unrelated to the network path configuration.
Exam Strategy
When configuring Remote Desktop clients, always check the Advanced tab for network-specific overrides like gateways. Memorize the exact UI labels: 'Connect from anywhere' is the gateway section, while 'General' handles connection naming and file storage. Practice opening mstsc.exe and navigating to the Advanced tab to locate these settings physically.

GarrethM 👍 5 Answered AThe "Connect from anywhere" setting in the Remote Desktop Connection client (mstsc.exe) is where you: Enable and configure RD Gateway settings. Specify the RD Gateway server name. Choose whether to use the gateway only when needed or always. Other options explained: B. Server authentication: Manages certificate verification, not gateway configuration. C. Connection settings: Refers to general settings like computer name, username—but not RD Gateway. D. Local devices and resources: Controls redirection of printers, clipboard, drives, etc.

OTBGNF 👍 3 Answered COption A, "Connect from anywhere," is a general setting that allows connections from any network. However, when you are specifically dealing with connecting through a Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway), you typically need to configure the RD Gateway server settings. So, for a Remote Desktop connection to go through an RD Gateway, you usually configure the "Connection settings" (Option C), not "Connect from anywhere" (Option A).

Frank9020 👍 2 Answered CConnect from anywhere: This setting is related to enabling RD Gateway but is not where you configure the actual connection settings for using the gateway. Connection settings: This is where you configure the RD Gateway settings. You need to enter the RD Gateway server address and possibly other details required for connecting through the gateway.

Merrybob 👍 2 Answered ASilly question but I'd have to say Connect From Anywhere wins it for me. Within the Connect From Anywhere there are two options, namely, Connection Settings and Logon Settings. If you selected Connection Settings, you'd be ignoring Logon Settings. I think together they both make up the requirement in the question above.

RomanV 👍 2 Answered AA. Connect from anywhere. mr_Eliot " Run MSTSC.exe and check for your self." Did you check it yourself?! Open mstsc.exe and go to tab "ADVANCED" and see below "CONNECT FROM ANYWHERE: Configure settings to connect through Remote Desktop GATEWAY when I am working remotely"!!!!!!!!!!!

NoursBear 👍 2Well to be fair, I am going with A, Under Connect from Anywhere is "Settings" and NOT Connection Settings

KakTak 👍 2 Answered AAnswer is A. When you click Advanced Tab (mstsc) --> Connect from anywhere and then configure RD Gateway

abill 👍 2So is it Connect from anywhere or Connection settings?

Tr619899 👍 1 Answered AThe "Connect from anywhere" setting allows you to specify the Remote Desktop Gateway server for the connection. You need to provide the following details under this setting: 1.The RD Gateway server's address. 2. Specify whether to use the RD Gateway credentials for the remote server or provide separate credentials. This configuration ensures that your Remote Desktop connection routes through the RD Gateway, enabling secure access to the internal server (Server1) from external networks.

smith288 👍 1This slight semantics. There is a "connection settings" section on the General tab that allows you to Save, Save As, or Open an RDP file, BUT, on the Advanced tab, there is a "connect from anywhere" section that you must click Settings to get into to then finally see your generically named "Connection Settings." That is a bridge to far for me. I am going to choose to go to the section that you need to actually CLICK on to get to that second page. I vote A.

CJL324 👍 1Correction answer is C If the question is about configuring the Remote Desktop Connection application (MSTSC.exe), then "Connection settings" (option C) would be more appropriate. If the question is about ensuring the connection goes through the RD Gateway, then "Connect from anywhere" (option A) is the correct choice.

CJL324 👍 1A if you're configuring the Remote Desktop Connection application (MSTSC.exe) on your local machine to connect through a Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway), you typically need to ensure that the "Connect from anywhere" setting is enabled.

samoldman 👍 1 Answered AIn the standard Windows Remote Desktop Connection client (mstsc.exe), the settings for configuring a Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) are located under the Advanced tab in a section explicitly labeled "Connect from anywhere
