Fabric Version Control: Azure Repos vs GitHub
Short answer
C Modify the settings of the Research division workspaces to use an Azure Repos repository.
Question
Key Takeaways
The question tests knowledge of Git integration limitations in Microsoft Fabric, specifically distinguishing between supported and unsupported repositories.
This page explains how to configure version control for Microsoft Fabric workspaces, clarifying that Azure Repos is the supported integration method.
Common mistake: Many learners choose GitHub because it is a popular Git provider, but Fabric currently restricts integration to Azure Repos within the same tenant.
Expert Analysis
Why the Answer Is Correct
Option C is correct because Microsoft Fabric's native Git integration currently supports only Azure Repos (Azure DevOps) with the same tenant as the Fabric tenant. This allows for branch management and version control of semantic models and reports directly within the Fabric workspace settings. Why the Other Options Are Wrong
Option A and D suggest storage locations rather than version control systems; OneDrive and Data Lake Gen2 do not provide Git-based branching capabilities. Option B suggests GitHub, which is not yet fully supported for native Fabric workspace integration in the context of this exam question's source material, although recent updates may be changing this landscape.Community Comment Notes
Community consensus strongly favors Azure Repos, citing official Microsoft Learn documentation that states "Currently, only Git in Azure Repos... is supported." Some users note that GitHub support might be in preview or recently added, but the exam key remains aligned with the stable Azure Repos integration.Official Reference

Exam Strategy
Always check the specific 'Considerations and Limitations' section of Microsoft documentation for platform features like Git integration, as support can be restricted to specific providers even if other options seem logically equivalent.

stilferx 👍 9 Answered CIMHO, the Azure Repos is the answer. It is directly mentioned here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/cicd/git-integration/intro-to-git-integration Considerations and limitations Currently, only Git in Azure Repos with the same tenant as the Fabric tenant is supported. If the workspace and Git repo are in two different geographical regions, the tenant admin must enable cross-geo exports. Azure DevOps on-prem isn't supported. Sovereign clouds aren't supported.

VAzureD 👍 5 Answered COption C A. Storing semantic models and reports in Data Lake Gen2 storage might provide a storage solution, but it does not address the requirement for version control. B. While GitHub is a popular version control platform and supports branching, it may not integrate seamlessly with Contoso's Azure-based environment. D. Microsoft OneDrive is primarily a file hosting service and is not well-suited for version control of complex datasets, semantic models, and reports.

Naqib 👍 2https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/cicd/git-integration/intro-to-git-integration?tabs=azure-devops Based on the Microsoft Learn new update dated 09/22/2024, both Git in Azure Repos(with the same tenant as the Fabric tenant) and GitHub is supported now. So the right answer for now are Azure Repos and GitHub.
